Cal State Northridge’s Valley Trauma Center is seeking people to staff a 24-hour hotline or counsel sexual assault victims. Volunteers provide victims with support and information at hospitals, police stations or courts, and counsel victims, their families and significant others. English as a Second Language/Literacy tutors are needed by the San Fernando Valley Literacy Council. Training classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 and 27 at the United Methodist Church of Sepulveda, 15435 Rayen St., North Hills. Training books cost $25. The Volunteer Center Assistance League of Southern California needs volunteers to work with children at the YMCA West Valley Family Center, 18810 Vanowen St., Reseda. The city of Calabasas’ Volunteer Creek Monitoring Program needs people to collect water samples from Las Virgenes Creek. Once a month, volunteers will test the samples for nitrogen, phosphates, ammonia and other chemicals in five locations along the creek. This monitoring program will be incorporated into larger water-quality initiatives being developed by other cities in the Malibu Creek Watershed.
