BUNNELL, Fla. — A paramedic was suspended for two shifts after he used an ambulance to take a beached dolphin to a holding tank. County officials said Roy Longo, a 10-year veteran, violated county policy by transporting an animal in an ambulance.
Longo said the alternative to using the ambulance was more dangerous: placing the dolphin in a basket-like stretcher atop a fire engine with a firefighter atop the engine holding the animal.
Sea World officials said the 1-year-old dolphin is in guarded but stable condition.
