Jackson Says He May Run for President
Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson said he is seriously considering running for president in 2000, throwing a new and unpredictable element into the race for the Democratic Party nomination. Jackson spoke to reporters in New Hampshire by telephone on the eve of a visit to the state, which traditionally stages the first presidential primary vote of the campaign. “My history in the domestic development of our country . . . and my capacity and will to motivate people to turn out to vote is a body of leadership that must be considered in the mix,” Jackson said.
