Attorney and social agency director Corinne Sanchez on Friday became the latest candidate to qualify for the election to fill the 7th District seat on the Los Angeles City Council.

Sanchez, who is president of El Proyecto Del Barrio, a health services agency, became the sixth candidate to qualify for the election to fill the vacancy created when Richard Alarcon left the council for the state Senate.

The city clerk ruled Friday that Sanchez had turned in at least 500 valid signatures of voters in the district.

“I feel invigorated by being out there talking to people and hearing their interests,” said Sanchez, who has been endorsed by Alarcon.

Pastor Dudley Chatman is the last remaining candidate whose signatures are still being checked by the clerk.

Others who have qualified for the race include former San Fernando Mayor Raul Godinez II, government relations manager Ollie McCaulley, legislative aide Alex Padilla, youth services director Tony Lopez and college administrator Barbara Perkins.
