Pledges Gathered for 8th Food Share Hike
Oxnard-based Food Share will hold its eighth annual Hike Against Hunger next weekend, with hundreds of people set to walk the Ventura County coastline to raise money for the emergency food bank.
Hikers are gathering pledges for the event, which starts at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at San Buenaventura State Beach. Hikers can walk two-mile, four-mile or eight-mile loops. More ambitious hikers can do a two-day, 30-mile route that will take them to Santa Barbara.
Last year’s hike raised $24,000 for Food Share, which helps supply food to poor individuals and families across the county. This year’s goal is $30,000.
This year’s event is sponsored by the Pierpont Racquet Club and will include members of the club’s youth swim team.
Food Share is still seeking walkers and sponsors to pledge money. For more information, call the group at 983-7100.
