SCANA Corp., which provides electric and gas service to customers in South Carolina and Georgia, is buying Public Service Co. of North Carolina for about $680 million, or $33 a share, in cash and stock. The company created by the deal would have about 1.2 million customers and annual revenue of about $2 billion.

Discovery Zone Inc., operator of children’s entertainment centers, has hired investment bank Ladenburg Thalmann & Co. to help raise additional capital and consider strategic alternatives, including a possible sale of the company.
