Ventura Boulevard Work Nears Finish
Signs of construction activity--trucks, orange rubber cones and wooden barricades--will soon disappear from Ventura Boulevard as the city gets close to wrapping up a road improvement project.
The project is designed to alleviate traffic congestion at the Las Posas Road exit of the Ventura Freeway. The city said two weeks ago that the roadwork begun last August would be complete within five days.
Daniel Greeley, Camarillo’s director of engineering, said the reopening was stalled because street lamps ordered by Southern California Edison have yet to arrive.
The postponement is a matter of safety, Greeley said, because motorists should not be driving an unfamiliar road without proper nighttime illumination.
Greeley said reflective lights will line the roadway for the next two weeks until Edison’s lights arrive.
As drivers exit the freeway at Las Posas, they will face two Ventura Boulevards--one right off the freeway leading to the theaters and nearby shopping outlets, and another at the entrance to the Camarillo Towne Center shopping area.
When the project is finished, the second section of the boulevard will become the main entry to the Camarillo Premium Outlets. The first section will be closed to through traffic, except for access to a park-and-ride lot.
Greeley said signs will soon be posted to inform motorists of the traffic flow changes.
