Don Burt Act Would Target Counterfeiters

Share

Assemblyman Ken Maddox (R-Garden Grove) today will announce plans to introduce a bill designed to crack down on computer counterfeiters by allowing for the permanent forfeiture of equipment used to forge money, checks, identification tags or government seals.

The bill is named the Officer Don

Burt Act of 1999, in honor of the California Highway Patrol officer who was killed in 1996 during a routine traffic stop.

Police allege that Burt was killed by a gang member who operates an extensive network of forgery and fraud rings along the West Coast.
