Panel to Discuss SOAR, Measure A
SOAR, the Save Open Space and Agricultural Resources measure, and the Measure A initiative will come under the glare of hindsight at a town hall meeting Feb. 27.
The meeting, called “Measure A and SOAR Four Months Later: Where Are We?” will feature a panel that will examine how the successful ballot measures are being implemented and what they mean for Ventura County’s future.
The public discussion is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 27 in Room B of the Oxnard Library, 251 South A St.
The event is sponsored by the Ventura County League of Women Voters.
Panelists include Jim Churchill, farmer advocate of SOAR; Richard Francis, coauthor of SOAR; Gene Kjellberg of the county Planning Commission, and Richard Pidduck, president of the county Farm Bureau.
One of the state’s most ambitious growth-control measures, SOAR put the brakes on large-scale residential and commercial development of farmland in favor of preserving open space.
Measure A, an advisory initiative, called for creation of a special district to purchase farm land and open space.
It also suggested creation of an open space district.
