Bush Gets Nod From Northern Neighbor
Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating, chairman of the Republican Governors’ Assn., endorsed Texas Gov. George W. Bush for the Republican nomination in the 2000 presidential race. “We have a lot of very good people running. But George has been elected and reelected the governor of a country. Texas is a country,” Keating said on CNN. Keating, who was in Washington for the meeting of the National Governors’ Assn., said he thought Elizabeth Hanford Dole, a potential presidential candidate, would be “a very good running mate” for Bush. Bush said Wednesday he hasn’t decided whether he will be a candidate.
