Crews Search for Man Swept Off Jetty

Rescue workers continued their search Sunday for a man who was swept off a jetty by high surf at a San Pedro beach, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said.

A second man also was swept into the water but managed to pull himself to safety. He was taken to San Pedro Peninsula Hospital, where he was treated for hypothermia.

Four people were on the jetty at 3720 S. Stephen M. White Drive on Saturday afternoon when the waves swept the two men, both in their early 20s, into the ocean, said fire spokesman Jim Wells. He did not provide the name of either man.

Three rescue boats and two fire helicopters searched the coastal waters until dark Saturday and Sunday, officials said. The search is expected to resume today.
