13 Hurt as Bus Brakes to Avoid Collision
More than a dozen elementary school students were hurt Monday when their school bus stopped suddenly to avoid colliding with a car, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The students from Quail Valley Elementary School were on their way home at 2:39 p.m. when a red compact car swerved in front of their bus at the intersection of 55th Street East and Avenue R-8, CHP Officer Todd Powers said.
“There was no collision,” said Becky McIntyre of the Palmdale School District. “As soon as we heard about the accident we sent administrators from the school, the school district and the transportation department out to the scene.”
Thirteen students, grades two to six, were treated at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center for minor injuries, Powers said. Authorities were searching for the driver of the red car, who could face a charge of leaving the scene of an accident.
