The City Council is leaning toward providing funds again for two popular celebrations: the western-themed Silverado Days Parade in October and the Fourth of July fireworks event. The city stopped paying for both in 1997 to help reduce the budget. The council will make a formal decision in March, but during a study session last week the majority of council members expressed interest in funding the two events again. In the past, the parade cost the city $15,000 to provide street maintenance, police and other services. The fireworks event cost $23,000 for materials, entertainment, staff time, cleanup and other services.
