Cerro Villa Middle School seventh-grader Elysse Applebaum knows how to spell “martyr.” Spelling the word correctly recently earned her the title of seventh- and eighth-grade champion of the Orange Unified School District Spelling Bee. Earlier this month, the contest was held for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students. Trustees at Thursday’s board meeting will commend Applebaum and other winning students. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the District Education Center, 1401 N. Handy St.
