LAX Shuttle Plan May Be Delayed
The April 1 launch date for reduced shuttle van operations at Los Angeles International Airport was thrown into question Thursday after a protest by small shuttle van operators delayed licensing of one of the three companies tapped for full-service operations at LAX.
A dozen independent shuttle operators lodged a protest against Xpress Management Systems, which operates Xpress Shuttle, at a hearing of the state Public Utilities Commission in downtown Los Angeles.
Instead of moving Xpress Shuttle’s application forward as expected, Administrative Law Judge Maribeth Bushey continued the matter until April 6. Xpress may still request an interim permit from the PUC at its next meeting in March.
Airport officials have said at least two of the three concessionaires must receive their permits from the PUC for the program to begin April 1, and so far only Blue Van Joint Venture, which does business as Super Shuttle, has one.
