Tuna Canyon

Share

As a resident of Tuna Canyon in Topanga, I wish to second Aaron Miller’s Feb. 18 letter urging Los Angeles to declare a moratorium on further land development in the Santa Monica Mountains, freeing money for parks in the inner city.

Tuna Canyon is one of the last undeveloped coastal canyons; it supports hundreds of plant, bird and amphibian species, many endangered, as well as bobcats, mountain lions, deer and coyotes. Yet developers are trying to pave an 1,800-foot road into the canyon’s heart, where they want to build as many as 30 homes. Topanga residents cannot save the Santa Monica Mountains alone. We need the city’s help immediately.
