Farmer’s Market

* Re “Rescuing the Authentic,” Opinion, Feb. 21:

One of my fondest memories as a child (and sister of the little girl featured in the photo) was a visit to Farmer’s Market. The smells, sights and sounds delight me as much now as they did 40 or so years ago, and it is a favorite meeting spot for me and my 19-year-old daughter, who is a student at USC. I would be happy if they didn’t change a thing!

* As a child, my mother would take me for an afternoon at the Farmer’s Market. We’d eat lunch, watch them make peanut butter, she gave me change for the wishing well and we’d go see the puppies. When my own children were toddlers, I took them to lunch, to watch them make peanut butter, gave them change for the wishing well and we’d go see the puppies (one day we took one home).

When I was pregnant, I knew the Farmer’s Market would have the perfect lemon meringue pie to satisfy my craving. Gill’s still has the best peppermint ice cream cake, and Little John’s English Toffee is the best dinner gift a hostess can receive. A visit to the Farmer’s Market is always a special treat. “Don’t change a hair for me, not if you care for me. . . . “
