In an otherwise well-written article (Dec. 28) on Karachi, I was surprised to read about the British “abandoning” the Indian subcontinent. Is that the same way the British “abandoned” their North American colonies?

Ever hear of Muhammad Jinnah or Mahatma Gandhi (about both of whom movies have been made, too)?
