EarthLink Claims 1 Million Members

Share

EarthLink Network said it signed up its 1 millionth member last week, reaching that milestone two to three months earlier than expected. Garry Betty, president and chief executive of the Pasadena-based Internet service provider, attributed subscriber growth to its marketing partnership with long-distance provider Sprint, distribution through computer retailer CompUSA and deals that put EarthLink’s Web-browsing software on the desktops of Apple Computer’s iMacs and of PCs made by Packard Bell NEC. The company also said it expects to report on Feb. 16 fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of about $58.3 million, a 138% increase over the same period of 1998. In Nasdaq trading, EarthLink shares rose $5.44 to close at $62.44. The announcements were made after the close of trading.
