Arizona Roundups
* Your article on the Chandler, Ariz., roundup of people who “look Mexican” and the lawsuits that have resulted make me again wonder about something here in California. How is it that what went on in Chandler is illegal and unconstitutional, which it definitely is, and the San Clemente (I-5) and Temecula (I-15) Border Patrol racial roadblocks are not illegal?
When one adds to the equation the very real fact that those running illegal immigrant schemes have for some time now targeted our southern border as a good way to bring in African and Asian economic refugees (who don’t “look Mexican”), we should really question the legality of these Border Patrol roadblocks. The fact that they may snare some illegal immigrants is not a justification for their existence if they are also unconstitutional.
