Spotlight: HP Launches 10-Employee S.D. Company

Hewlett-Packard Co. has established a 10-employee company in San Diego to make and sell low-priced products under the brand name Apollo. The company plans to introduce its first product, a color inkjet printer priced under $100, this spring. The low-overhead operation in Rancho Bernardo represents a break from the computer maker’s usual way of doing business and suggests a new business model for HP, which has been struggling with lower margins and slower growth in some aspects of its $4.7-billion business.
