Milpitas-based Adaptec Inc., a maker of computer connector cards and storage devices, said it will report better-than-expected revenue and earnings for its fiscal third quarter on cost cuts and strong new product sales. Profit before charges for the period ended Dec. 31 will be more than 20 cents a share, beating the 14-cent average estimate of analysts. Adaptec had profit of $37 million, or 38 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue for the quarter will be about $183 million, down from $254 million. Adaptec will report details of quarterly earnings Jan. 25. Shares rose 81 cents to close at $19.56 before trading was halted on Nasdaq.
