Economy

Each week in the front section of The Times I read that the economy is doing great and that Bill Clinton’s approval rating is going up.

However, each week I also read about thousands of layoffs in businesses in the U.S., and according to my local representative, the national debt actually increased by $100 billion last year. A recent article said 25 million layoffs are expected in five Asian countries, doubling the number of poor there.

How can this be? It is possible that Clinton and the Democratic leadership are being less than candid with the American people? Probably not, otherwise tens of thousands of unemployed steelworkers, oil field workers, assembly-line workers, airplane industry workers and others would not have voted for him.
