Mayor Harry Dotson says the city may take the first step in an energy revolution: solar power. The Redevelopment Agency will consider a plan today to partially fund a solar pump project at the Stanton Golf Center on Western Avenue.

Sang M. Han, who owns part of the Stanton Golf Center and is the chairman of Ultimate Motroller Corp.--a high-tech direct current motor developer in Chatsworth--said the use of solar power to irrigate the site’s six acres may be the first system of its kind in the country.

The system, Han said, involves a 4-foot-by-4-foot solar panel that will transfer the thermal energy from the sun to run a brushless electric motor. The motor is designed to pump water from the ground to irrigate the land.
