Government Wraps Up Microsoft Case

Microsoft Corp.’s alleged anti-competitive business practices have yet to harm consumers, though the software giant could raise prices if its Windows monopoly remains intact, an economist testified as the government concluded its landmark antitrust case. Massachusetts Institute of Technology economist Franklin Fisher, the last witness for the government, did insist nonetheless that Microsoft’s decision to give away its Internet Explorer browser is a predatory pricing tactic designed to undercut rival Netscape Communications Corp. Microsoft is scheduled to begin presenting its case today.
