City officials put the final piece in place this week to start up a Board of Building Appeals. The three-member board will hear from residents who want to challenge decisions made by the building inspector or who want to stray from the building codes for a project.

Council members voted unanimously in November to create the board and appointed the three volunteer members last month. On Monday, they set an application fee of $250 for appellants. The board will meet in February for the first time. After that, members will meet annually unless needed to hear an appeal, according to the city clerk’s office.

The three residents serving on the appeals board are general contractors George Sagen and Charles Walsh and architect Richard Bowen. Jack Rosenthal, an electrical engineer, will serve as an alternate. Information: Community Development Department, (562) 431-3538, Ext. 301.
