Flynt Hospitalized With Pneumonia

Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt, who has recently been spotlighting the extramarital affairs of prominent Republicans, has been hospitalized with pneumonia, his lawyer said Thursday.

Flynt had not been feeling well and was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after a chest X-ray, said attorney Alan Isaacman.

“He’s had an exhausting schedule lately,” Isaacman said.

Flynt made the rounds on national television programs this week to accuse Rep. Bob Barr (R-Ga.) of hypocrisy for refusing to answer questions during a divorce proceeding about an alleged affair. Flynt was presented with information about Barr after offering money to anyone who could document “illicit sexual relations” with top lawmakers.

Flynt also was preparing to defend himself against obscenity charges in Cincinnati, where he and his brother were indicted last April for allegedly selling an obscene videotape to a 14-year-old boy. The trial was to start next week, but Flynt’s lawyer this week asked for a continuance, saying the publisher had to undergo surgery for a urological blockage. The judge agreed to delay the trial until April, but demanded proof that Flynt actually has the procedure.
