Assemblyman Tom McClintock (R-Northridge), whose district includes Fillmore and Simi Valley, has appointed a member of the Simi Valley school board to oversee his four-person district office in Granada Hills.

Norm Walker, a former private school administrator, replaces Scott Wilk as district director. Wilk left to become legislative affairs director for a health-care corporation in South Dakota.

“Norm Walker is a highly respected education leader in Simi Valley,” McClintock said in a press release. “Over many years in public service, he has demonstrated a keen understanding of our community and a singular dedication to improving the education quality of our children. His experience and expertise in genuine school reform will be a tremendous asset in his new capacity.”

Walker, 47, said his position on Simi Valley Unified’s school board would not create any conflicts for him in his new position.

“Staff people are citizens as well, and I think it’s good to be involved in your community,” he said.

McClintock also announced that Russ Hopkins of Simi Valley and Charlene Velguth of the Santa Clarita Valley will serve as district field representatives.
