Village Christian Can’t Keep Up With L.A. Baptist

Daniel Acuna scored 27 points and L.A. Baptist registered a 59-49 victory over Village Christian in an Alpha League boys’ basketball game Thursday night at Village Christian.

Acuna scored 10 of his points in the first quarter and 13 in the first half, but the Knights (6-11, 2-0) had only a 29-27 edge at halftime.

Gabriel Frazier, who had 12 points, hit a three-point shot at the end of the third quarter to help the Knights pull away.

L.A. Baptist led, 43-36, after Frazier’s shot, and scored the first six points of the fourth quarter.

Paul Tait scored 14 points and Aaron Maxwell had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Village Christian (7-9, 0-1).

GIRLS’ GAMES

Alemany 65, Chaminade 23--Kate Beckler scored 20 points for the Indians in a Mission League victory at Chaminade.

Alemany (11-5, 3-1) limited Chaminade (4-13, 0-4) to one basket in the first quarter.

Notre Dame 66, Louisville 49--Sophomore Sierra Hauser-Price scored 11 of her 20 points in the third quarter, when the Knights extended a seven-point halftime lead to 15 points in a Mission League victory at Notre Dame.

K.K. Barwick added 16 points for Notre Dame (12-8, 3-1). Sarah Kelso scored 17 for Louisville.

Littlerock 63, Lancaster 45--Kristel Jones scored 17 points and Jameka Taylor had 11 points, nine assists and eight steals for the Lobos (10-9, 2-1) in a Golden League victory at Littlerock.

Santa Barbara 55, Ventura 50--Lisa Willett scored 24 points and the Dons (11-6, 1-0) made 27 of 34 free throws during a Channel League victory at Santa Barbara.

Alex Gientke scored 21 points for Ventura (10-8, 1-1).

St. Bonaventure 53, Oak Park 40--Stacey Howard had 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Seraphs in a Tri-Valley League victory at St. Bonaventure.

Shannon Fink scored 11 for St. Bonaventure (9-7, 2-0).

Kim Bryan scored 16 for Oak Park (6-8, 1-1).
