No Breakthrough for Environment

Share

The graphic with “Detour for a Breakthrough Car” [Dec. 29] states that the vehicle produces only “harmless carbon dioxide and hydrogen.”

Carbon dioxide is most certainly not a harmless pollutant, but the major contributor to global warming and catastrophic climate change. While such a vehicle might cut down on photochemical smog, it is certainly no solution to the major environmental problem of our time.

Every day millions of Angelenos idle their cars on the parking lots we call freeways, pouring tons of carbon dioxide (as well as other pollutants) into our precious atmosphere. The gasoline fuel-cell car, like the electric vehicle, is a useless investment until people are willing to make the changes necessary to preserve our quality of life.
