Firm to buy Sporthouse’s Membership Base

The Sports Club Co. in Los Angeles has agreed to acquire the membership base and certain assets of Sporthouse Inc., which operates a health and fitness club in Thousand Oaks.

“We expect to convert a substantial number of the Sporthouse members to our new Spectrum Club-Thousand Oaks when it opens later this month,” said John M. Gibbons, president and chief operating officer.

“Subject to the completion of this acquisition, our Thousand Oaks club membership may exceed 5,000.”

Gibbons said the acquisition should be completed by the end of the month.

The Sports Club operates 13 upscale health and fitness clubs throughout the country under the Sports Club and Spectrum Club names.
