Roch Courreges Elementary School parent David Cecil is protesting the school’s recent decision not to accept a children’s book he donated. Cecil said “The Crippled Lamb” is a story about a crippled lamb that had to stay inside the stable while the other lambs played. Because it had to stay in the stable, the lamb was chosen to watch over baby Jesus.
Cecil said he did not understand why the book was not permitted. “It seems wrong to not allow it. . . . It would be a good addition to the library,” he said.
Fountain Valley School District Supt. Marc Ecker invited Cecil to meet with him to discuss the reasons for not accepting the book. Trustee Robert Sedlak requested a staff report on the parent’s concern. “We are always looking for good material,” Ecker said. “But we also have to stay within our board policies.”
