Jason Terry scored a career-high 37 points Thursday night as ninth-ranked Arizona held off Oregon for an 85-83 victory at Eugene, Ore., in another close game for both teams.
Arizona, 13-2 overall and 5-1 in the Pacific 10 Conference, had an 84-83 lead, but a long three-point shot by Terry rattled out with about 30 seconds left, giving the Ducks a chance to take the lead.
With the clock winding down, Frederick Jones drove the lane and was fouled on a wild jumper. He missed both free throws, however, and Arizona’s Richard Jefferson was fouled with 2.6 seconds left. He made one of two.
After a timeout, the Ducks’ A.D. Smith flung a baseball pass to midcourt, but the ball was tipped and time ran out before Oregon could get off a desperation shot.
It was the fourth consecutive close game for Arizona. The Wildcats beat Washington on a last-second tip-in Jan. 9. Last week, Arizona beat Arizona State, 74-73, before losing at New Mexico, 79-78, at the buzzer.
