Tyson Performance Far From a Knockout

Share

A fighter who hasn’t fought in a year and a half, and who looked like a spent fighter in his previous two fights. An opponent who is regarded as no more than that--an opponent. And a pay-per-view price of $45.95.

Why is anyone surprised that the Tyson-Botha fight did so poorly? This fight shouldn’t have been priced higher than $15, and quite possibly should have been a Showtime program instead of pay-per-view. Once boxing and TV promoters like Showtime and HBO start giving viewers value for their money, pay-per-view numbers will increase. Until then, boxing fans will speak with their wallets and say “No thank you” to inflated prices for deflated fight cards.

Is there any justification for a sport that allows the likes of Mike Tyson to compete?

You know it’s not a good sports week when Michael Jordan retires and Mike Tyson returns.
