Mural in La Colonia Park

Re “Wall to Wall Memories,” Jan. 13.
I’m writing to publicly express my gratitude to the many talented volunteers who engaged in the collaborative process of creating the mural featured in this article.
Long before any paint transformed the wall, our staff, summer youth workers and community intern Juan Leyva conducted extensive research and interviews on La Colonia’s history. They also painstakingly prepared the surface--there were 20 layers of paint to be removed, one by one!
This project to beautify our city also involved members of the community, youth workers and the city of Oxnard anti-graffiti team.
On behalf of El Centrito De La Colonia, I thank those behind the scenes who worked tirelessly to make our newest mural a work of art for all to enjoy.
LUANN ROCHA, Executive Director, El Centrito De La Colonia, Oxnard
