City officials last week announced that Anaheim has been selected to be the finish line for the History Channel’s Great Race. About 100 classic cars will take part in the 3,500-mile cross-country trip, which starts June 6 in Marietta, Ga., near Atlanta, and ends June 19 at Lemon Street and Center Street Promenade in Anaheim.

Drivers in the 17th annual car race will be from all over the world, including some from Anaheim and other Orange County cities. Events to celebrate “A Century of the Automobile” are being planned during the week before the race’s end. More than 25,000 people are expected to be downtown at the finish line.
