Advanced Computing of Irvine Bought by Texas Firm

Computer services giant Electronic Data Systems Corp. has acquired Irvine-based Advanced Computing, the companies announced Tuesday.

All 61 employees of privately held Advanced Computing will continue with the company, which will retain its locations in Irvine and Memphis, Tenn. Advanced Computing’s chief executive, Mark Lewis, will continue to head the operation. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Advanced Computing provides warranty management, registration, repair management and other services for the personal computer industry. Customers include AST, Canon, Compaq Services, Fujitsu and Toshiba America Information Systems.

EDS, based in Plano, Texas, had considered building its own warranty registration services unit, but opted to acquire Advanced Computing instead. EDS offers extensive customer management services that would complement warranty services.
