Supervisor Wilson

Share

Elected officials are supposed to represent their constituents’ wishes, not just their own. Calling Supervisor Tom Wilson a puppet for South County residents against the proposed fiasco of an airport at El Toro is assuming he actually supports the airport but is being forced to act against his will (Letters, Jan. 14).

I realize that the concept of a politician working for the wishes of those people who elected him or her is highly unlikely these days, but when it does happen, please do not denigrate this idea.

Your Jan. 10 editorial concerning Supervisor Tom Wilson, “The Politics of the Gavel,” was unbelievable. The editorials are usually quite rational.

However, this editorial is way off base. The reasoning is beyond comprehension, such as your last paragraph, that “in a sense, a vote against Wilson is a vote against all the supervisors and their ability to act independently and courageously.”

No way could Wilson have really expected to be elected to this position of chairman of the Board of Supervisors.

You also reached for the ridiculous by suggesting that such a vote based on the airport could lead to the election of a chairman on an issue like a jail site.
