LOS ALAMITOS

The Rossmoor-Los Alamitos Area Sewer District will remain intact, at least for the foreseeable future. A majority of the City Council voted this week to table a proposal made by Councilman Charles E. Sylvia to consider breaking up the district that serves the city, Rossmoor and parts of Cypress and Seal Beach.

Sylvia argued that the district is inefficiently run and does not have adequate financial reserves. By acting now, he said, the city could also take over the district’s site next to City Hall.

But Mayor Marilynn M. Poe was joined by three colleagues when she said the city has too much going on to propose the controversial action. She cited lawsuits filed against Seal Beach, for approving the massive Bixby development, and the Los Alamitos Unified School District, for moving ahead with plans to build a new high school. Councilman Arthur DeBolt, who served on the district board, said Sylvia’s complaints are without merit.
