In a program that promotes electric energy conservation, officials this week planted the 10,000th shade tree in the city. During a ceremonial planting, a 14-foot-high camphor tree--which will grow to about 30 feet--was placed on a knoll near the Sunkist Library, and Mayor Tom Daly unveiled a commemorative sign. A total of 10 trees were planted at Sunkist, Haskett and Euclid branch libraries.

Since 1992, Anaheim Public Utilities’ TreePower program has helped consumers use electricity and water more efficiently. Trees are provided at no charge to homeowners, schools, churches and nonprofit organizations, and are available for public properties.

About 4,300 shade trees will be planted citywide this year. Information: (714) 491-8733 or the city’s Web page at https://www.anaheimadvantage.com.
