Deadbeat Dad Jailed for Owing $129,000
One of Ventura County’s 10 most wanted deadbeat parents has begun serving a six-month jail sentence for failing to pay $129,000 in child support, authorities said Friday.
Alejandro Granados Picasso was in court Tuesday for a probation violation hearing when he admitted not making the back payments, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Ron Carpenter.
Picasso was ordered to start paying child support about 10 years ago. But authorities said he has either been in prison or avoiding the law by using aliases in Southern California and Mexico. Picasso’s two children live with his ex-wife in Ventura County.
Although he has never voluntarily made a payment, authorities were able to legally wrangle more than $30,000 from Picasso after he won a multimillion dollar state lottery jackpot several years ago.
Picasso was transported from an Orange County jail to Ventura County earlier this month. He had been arrested in Orange County last year and was serving time for stealing a boat and failing to register as a sex offender, according to Carpenter.
When Picasso is released from jail, he will still be required by law to make the payments, which amount to less than $300 each month. If he continues not to pay, Picasso could be jailed again, said Carpenter.
“It all depends if he wants life imprisonment on the installment plan or whether he wants to support the children,” Carpenter said.
