Vaqueros Knock Off No. 5 Sailors

Tim Rapp made 10 of 17 from the field and scored 21 points, leading host Irvine to a 60-40 Sea View League victory over No. 5 Newport Harbor.

The Vaqueros led 35-19 at halftime, but Newport Harbor (19-3, 4-2) scored the first five points of the second half to pull within 11. Irvine (16-6, 3-3) regained control and pulled away.

Chris Ferguson had 20 points for the Vaqueros.

Matt Jameson led the Sailors with 15 points.

In other Sea View League games:

El Toro 43, Corona del Mar 38--Seth Perra scored 15 points to lead visiting El Toro (12-10, 1-5). Kevin Hansen had 13 points, including three three-pointers, for Corona del Mar (15-7, 3-3).

In the Century League:

Villa Park 70, Santa Ana Valley 54--Andy Olsen had 21 points and Adam Keith had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead host Villa Park (15-8, 5-1). Jimmy Lopez scored 15 for Santa Ana Valley (6-15, 0-6).

In the Empire League:

Loara 54, Kennedy 51--Kennedy (7-16, 1-6) led by seven at the half, but lost the lead and couldn’t pull off the upset as Jason Grier’s last-second three-pointer fell short. Tony Jimmerson led the Fighting Irish with 14 points.

Ben Wardrop had a game-high 17 for Loara (20-3, 6-1).

Cypress 43, Century 42 (OT)--Alfonso Stovall (14 points) made a free throw with 14 seconds left in overtime for Cypress. Robert Ramirez scored 12 points for Century (8-14, 2-4).

In the Freeway League:

Troy 58, Buena Park 42--Junior guard Sean Christensen, starting for the first time this season, made six of seven three-pointers to score a game-high 18 points for the host Warriors.

Troy (13-8, 4-2) pulled into a tie for second with Buena Park (16-6, 4-2).

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 57, Los Amigos 43--John James returned from an ankle injury and had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead host Bolsa Grande (12-11, 5-4). Alphonzo Martinez also had 15 points for the Matadors.

Issac Hurtado scored 20 points for Los Amigos (15-8, 6-3).

Santiago 59, Rancho Alamitos 58--Khemra Krouch made a layup with three seconds left in the game to lift Santiago (4-19, 1-9). Miguel Soriano scored 23 points for Santiago.

In the Golden West League:

Servite 41, Saddleback 39--Terrell Foster scored nine of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, but Saddleback (8-14, 1-5) came up short despite outscoring Servite 17-12 in the quarter.

Evan Friedl led the Friars (11-10, 3-3) with 11 points.

Westminster 46, Santa Ana 45--Budha Trinh’s last-second basket won it for host Westminster (5-16, 1-5). Kenny Sato led the Lions with 10 points. Darnell Graham had a game-high 20 for Santa Ana (10-12, 3-4).

In the Orange League:

No. 4 Brea Olinda 97, Savanna 56--Dexter Villapando scored 19 of his game-high 21 points in the second quarter, including five three-pointers, to lead the host Wildcats (20-2, 6-0). Jerrett Skrifvars had 18 points and 20 rebounds for Brea Olinda and Kyle Dodd had 14 points and 10 assists.

Magnolia 77, Anaheim 54--Asi Faoa tied a school record by scoring 38 points. He did it in just three quarters--going 16 of 20 from the field--to share the honor with Zamiro Bennem, who is now at UC Irvine. He also had 11 rebounds. Anaheim is 7-13, 1-5.

Valencia 58, Western 46--Robert Turner scored 18 points and Billvick Perez and Dajuan Pannell each had 11 for visiting Valencia (7-15, 4-2). Western is 2-14, 0-6.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Estancia 64, Costa Mesa 44--Brett Valbuena scored 23 points and John Cantrell had 17 for host Estancia (10-12, 3-3).

Laguna Beach 50, Aliso Niguel 46--Sean Donnelly hit a three-pointer with less than a minute to play, giving Laguna Beach (17-4, 5-1) a one-point lead. Kurt Beimfohr sealed the victory with two free throws. Travis Hanour led the Artists with 19 points and eight rebounds and Beimfohr finished with 12 points.

Aliso Niguel is 11-10, 3-3.

University 83, Laguna Hills 71--Chet Johnson scored a career-high 30 points and Andy Lawrence scored 25, including six three-pointers, to lead University (13-8, 4-2). Jeff Eittreim scored 30 points for Laguna Hills (11-10, 3-3).
