Raggio Quits Post on Airport Authority, Cites Interference
Saying he had philosophical differences with the Glendale City Council, Carl Raggio resigned Wednesday as one of the city’s three representatives to the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority.
Raggio said he stepped down after 12 years because of what he called the Glendale City Council’s refusal to recognize the Airport Authority as a separate government entity and because council members were instructing commissioners how to vote.
“Their responsibility ends with the selection of and removal of commissioners. They don’t have a right to go beyond that,” said Raggio, a former Glendale mayor.
Raggio was most critical of council members Gus Gomez, Rafi Manoukian and Dave Weaver. The trio has been pushing for a compromise with Burbank over a planned new terminal, which Burbank officials fear will lead to a big increase in air traffic.
“All three aren’t really informed about the airport,” Raggio said. “I don’t think they are in a position to instruct us how to act.”
