Demolition of the ruptured water tank on Hefley Street is expected to begin within the next few weeks. J&G; Industries of Fountain Valley was recently awarded a contract of $59,700 to perform the work, an amount almost two-thirds less than the estimate of $175,000. The 5-million-gallon tank ruptured in September, flooding the Hefley Square neighborhood, because of flaws in its design and construction. The city has still not decided what to do with a second, identical tank on Monroe Street that was drained shortly after the incident.
