Gallery’s Mission

Share

Regarding Christopher Knight’s article “PaceWildenstein to End Its Beverly Hills Exhibition Program” (June 22), the facts need clarification.

From its inception, the gallery enjoyed a very satisfactory commercial success. We have been instrumental in starting new collections and working with collectors to enhance existing ones. We will continue this process, as before, with the exception of presenting exhibitions. Works from our inventory will be available to be seen by appointment at the same location.

Our decision to suspend exhibitions was not in any way based on economic dissatisfaction, but rather as a result of our disappointment that the public did not take advantage of exhibitions that were prepared with great effort.

Going to galleries is an integral part of the cultural life of New York City. It was our hope that we could further develop that lifestyle in Los Angeles. After four years of enjoying large attendance at openings and only sporadic attendance thereafter, we concluded that we were not succeeding as a cultural and educational venue. It is with regret that we came to the decision to suspend the exhibition program. We will continue to make available significant works of art to collectors and museums.
