Digital faux pas redux: In trying to drum up a little legal business by playing up the Y2K bug, law firm Latham & Watkins last week touted a survey the firm commissioned that found nearly half of Americans would hold the owner of a business responsible for inconveniences due to a lack of Y2K compliance on the part of the company.

But Latham, a big-time operation based in Los Angeles and with a significant computer and technology group in Orange County, seems a bit behind the times itself. The firm’s letterhead lists the addresses, telephone and fax numbers of its 14 offices worldwide, but no e-mail or Web address.

It appears that Latham doesn’t expect a lot of visitors to its Web site, https://www.lw.com. At the end of last week, the firm had yet to post the news release issued Tuesday.
