Firearm Ordinance Waived for Boy Scouts Camp

Share

A city firearm ordinance has been waived by the Board of Police Commissioners so that boys--ages 7 to 11--can shoot BB guns at an upcoming Boy Scouts of America day camp.

About 150 boys are registered for the camp, which begins Monday and also offers crafts, swimming, sports and singing. Boy Scouts officials said shooting is an important part of the five-day camp.

Richard Pelkey, Boy Scouts spokesman, said that the BB gun shooting activities, which will take place at the Woodley Park archery field, will all be supervised by adults.

Detectives from the Police Commission Investigation Division visited the shooting site and met with Boy Scouts representatives before recommending the board approve the waiver.
