Entrepreneurs to Speak at Conference

Entrepreneurs who have used new technology to create successful companies will be speakers at the second Los Angeles Times Small Business Strategies Conference on Sept. 24-25.

They include:

* Keith L. Black, director of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s neurological institute, chairman of the neurosurgery department at UC Irvine’s medical school and founder of Medlennium Technologies.

* Sky Dayton, EarthLink Network’s founder.

* Howard E. “Ted” Greene Jr., founder of Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Hybritech and six other biotech companies.

* Helen Shih, co-founder of 800-777-CLUB Inc., a giant Asian American buying club.

* Jeffrey Green, Ari Engelberg and Jim McDermott, co-founders of Stamps.com, a fast-growing online start-up.

* Mike Buckman, president of RealSelect Inc., which operates Realtor.com, the Thousand Oaks-based online real estate service that is beating Microsoft in a battle for the top spot.

* Laurie McCartney, chief executive and founder of EStyle Inc., who started the e-commerce site babystyle.com.

More than 10,000 small-business owners are expected to attend the conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center. There will be 56 panels and workshops--eight in Spanish--and more than 100 exhibitors.
