Argentines Gain More Access to Isles

Argentine citizens will be allowed to visit the Falkland Islands and construct a memorial to countrymen killed in the 1982 conflict with Britain, under an agreement reached between the two countries in London. The deal, which also provides for monthly air service between Argentina and the Falklands beginning Oct. 16, represents a concrete sign of warming relations between Britain and Argentina. The flights will be operated by the Chilean airline Lan Chile. Its service to the Falklands was suspended after British authorities, acting on a Spanish warrant, arrested former Chilean dictator Gen. Augusto Pinochet. Argentine Foreign Minister Guido di Tella said the Chilean government had agreed to allow the flights to resume. The islands are a British colony but claimed by Argentina.
