Floor Jordan? Last Boards Trod by Bulls’ Great for Sale
Michael Jordan stepped here.
Some lucky bidder, or bidders, will be able to make this boast come Oct. 13, when Newport Beach-based Collectors Universe One-Of-A-Kind Auctions sells off the floorboards on which the ex-Chicago Bulls superstar stood to make his final basket.
The shot came in the sixth game of the 1998 NBA Championship finals, won by the Bulls over the Utah Jazz at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. The Jazz used the court from October 1996 until May, when the floor was replaced.
It was unclear Thursday how Collectors Universe President Michael Barnes had acquired the entire floor, including the backboards and hoops, or whether it would be sold off whole or in pieces.
The auction will be conducted over the Internet and by telephone, a Collectors Universe spokeswoman said, predicting it would haul in a “seven-figure” price.
Earlier this year, Barnes negotiated the $3 million sale of Mark McGwire’s 70th home run baseball. He also recently announced he would pay a $100,000 cash advance for the rights to auction McGwire’s 500th career home run ball.
